Rise for Ryan’s Run – Ryan will be running in a 100-mile personal quest and to raise money for That Others May Rise (Thatothersmayrise.org) and we are asking you to sponsor him per mile. Pledge what you can from .10 to $1.00 to $10.00 per mile or more or give one lump sum, it’s up to you. Ryan runs for those who can’t, like Henry a veteran with ALS. Ryan runs with determination like the students in an economically challenged country to lift themselves up through opportunity. Ryan runs for those at home for when the next disaster hits. Rise for Ryan’s Run.

Ryan Gergler is a man of many talents and mental toughness is on the top of his list. He is determined to push himself way beyond the norm. As a United Airlines Flight Attendant, he travels the world so is very adaptable and caring. As an athlete, he is a highly skilled water skier (ignore the fact he can’t ski right side up (pic)) and dedicated runner. His is determined to make the 100 miles across the Key west Bridge and in that we have no doubt! He is also determined to raise money for our veterans and those who are without opportunity. One aspect of the run he totally controls, the other is up to you! Give Ryan your pledge of support and Run Ryan Run!

Ways To Pledge and Give: Give right up front on Facebook or track his progress as we will provide live updates and give later. You can give before or after the run is finished either directly to thatothersmayrise.org (PayPal, credit card or check) or on Facebook.

We will kick it off by pledging 10.00 per mile and will double the total contributions up to $10,000!

Let’s do this thatothersmayrise.org a 501c3 charitable organization

What 2018 Holds?

Where will be heading in 2018?  What we can answer for certain is that we will continue to march forward in faith and look to God for answers and listen for God's guidance and directed path.  What we believe in our hearts is to follow our principles of:

Consistency:  Support that flows from one individual to another working with and through the community.

Relevance:  Actions and support are real and sustainable to the individual and the community to help them face their challenges today and tomorrow.

Agility: Be innovative, robust, resilient, and responsive to the community, the individual, and adaptable to changing and emerging situations.

Accountability: Ensure efforts and results are an effective return of investment for the stages of the individual, community, and the organizational development.

Combine that with our faith we will look to assist those organizations and individuals that are taking a chance to help others and to help themselves rise above their present circumstances.  Areas we are exploring for future endeavors are:

  • Strengthening our ability to respond to emerging situations, building a response mechanism and resources that don't duplicate other efforts

  • Focusing increased efforts in Porto Mosquito, Santiago, Cabo Verde

  • Assessing our ability and the need to focus on other areas, dependent on funds and resources.

  • Continued support of the Pararescue foundation, started by the founders.

We look forward to sharing the news and how you have helped others,  THANKS, That Others May Rise!

CABO VERDE DROUGHT CONDITIONS!  That Others May Rise is supporting Liga Nazarena De Solidariedade / Nazarene Solidarity League (A recognized NGO-NonGovernmental Organization) in their campaign ‘I Want To Help’  to provide relief to the rural areas of the country of Cabo Verde that are affected by a severe drought.  It is estimated that over 17,200 households or roughly 25% of the entire country’s population will be adversely affected by this drought.  Along with Nazarene Solidarity League we will be concentrating our efforts to raise money to focus on the families! The objectives will be on nutritional needs for families through immediate distribution of food and for the mid-term creating a food bank of non-perishable food for distribution throughout the drought.

#ONE LESS PIE (we have nothing against desert). As we look to our Thanksgiving in the United States, consider reaching out to others in their time of need; they will be thankful and you will be enriched.  While we pray and hope families in the US celebrate Thanksgiving with thankfulness, happiness and cheer, think about maybe this year one less meat on the table, one less pie, maybe one less helping and donate that saved money so That Others May Rise and celebrate the thankfulness others will feel for bread and rice for their families during these hard times.

Our ultimate goal is to raise $50 (US) per stricken family per month for at least 10 months.  We have a huge task at hand, and we know the everyone has a big heart when it comes to helping those in need! Please Share this Post.

YOUR $50 can feed a family for a Month, during this Crisis.

Do we Provide Toys to the Children?

Very recently I was asked this question:  Do we provide toys to the children we support?  There was also a follow-on intent to the question, If you do aren’t there more important things to spend money on then toys?  The answer to both questions is...

Chairs for the Little Ones

Chairs for the Little Ones

While in Cabo Verde we visited the small church that is held in a garage.  After speaking with the pastor, we discussed with local Board Members the option to build children's chairs for the church, as the only chairs available were for the adult congregation.  Again,. based on our principles of working locally, we came to agreement with a local craftsman who could benefit from the work to build twenty (20) chairs for the children.  The chairs are currently being built and we will provide an update.

Playing the Music of Angels

Playing the Music of Angels

Recently when a local church in Praia had their organ and some electrical equipment burglarized, we were able to work with the local pastor to replace the organ fro the church service that Sunday.  The pastor scouted the local market and working with a local businessman was able to find a great replacement that we purchased.  In the end this was a great surprise to the local church members and kept the money in the local market place.
